Rachel attended and completed her course at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. She has her full Aesthetics Certificate, Makeup Artistry Certificate as well as her Nail Technician Certificate. Rachel continuously updates her knowledge by attending regular classes and trade shows.
Aesthetics by Rachel does not use credo blades (an instrument used to remove large amounts of skin from the feet). They're trying to ban them from being used because they can cut the skin too easily and can remove too much skin from the feet.
The idea of a Pedicure is to have your calluses smoothed, NOT removed. Your feet build calluses for protection. If the callus is completely removed, the foot will think it's damaged and grow the skin back thicker each time. This can cause more problems in the long run and will have you running to get a Pedicure twice as often.
Ingrown nails form when the nail is cut too short. As the nail grows, the corners of it grow into the sides of the tissue around the nail, which causes pain, inflammation and possibly the start of an infection. Improper filing and poor fitting shoes can also be the cause of ingrown nails. If an infection occurs, the ingrown nail may take a long time to heal. To prevent them, the nail should never be cut past the tissue line on the sides of the nail.
If you are unsure of how to do this properly, it is recommended that you wait until until your next Manicure or Pedicure.
If your nails grow faster than this, feel free to come in and have your nails trimmed between your regular appointments.
Believe it or not, this is the best time to come in for a Manicure because this service actually helps make the nails healthy and strong while stimulating growth.
Manicures keep the cuticles in good shape and stimulate circulation in both the hand and arm while also moisturizing the skin. Manicures are key to healthy, strong nails.
Artificial nails cause a lot of damage to your natural nail. Your natural nails need to breath in order to grow healthy. Artficial nails suffocate them. Unfortuantely though, it does not begin here. Damage is already caused before the nails are put on because it is not healthy to file the nail surface. This takes too many layers off of your natural nail causing them to weaken. Once the nails are on, the chemicals used to adhere them eat away at your natural nail.
And the scariest part about them, when your nails cannot breath, they are trapped in an enclosed space, creating a prime breeding spot for bacteria and fungi. One bacterium can reproduce as many as 16 million bacteria in 12 hours. Once it's there, it's not easy to get rid of. In my professional opinion, spend the dollars on your natural nails, I promise you it's worth it in the long run.
Actually the opposite is true. Regular waxing treatments thin the regrowth considerably and if you are dedicated enough and stick to it on a regular basis, some of the hairs in time will eventually stop growing altogether.
A lot of clients fear Facials because of the extractions (removal of clogged pores). This should not be painful, however, you will feel slight discomfort.
The extractions are done at a particular step during the Facial.
If the skin is prepped properly, the clogged pores should open and release fairly easily. If this step still scares you, you can always ask the Aesthetician to skip this step as it is not a manditory step in Facials.
Ear Candling is a very natural way of cleaning accumulated wax and white, flaky fungus from the ears. Through a process called "convection", waxes and toxins are drawn from the ear, oxidized and then turned into vapours during this procedure.
Ear Candling is very effective in removing troublesome blockages from the ear canal without the use of solutions or syringes. This treatment is very relaxing and absolutely no pain or discomfort is experienced during the treatment.
